Weekly Wear 39: Lazy Day Sunday
Posted on January 21st, 2010 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 2 Comments »Yes, you heard that right! Weekly Wear is back. Well, one of the reasons why I am hosting a contest (JOIN HERE) is to hear your thoughts on the blog. That’s why I asked you what you like about My Fashion Juice and what you want to be featured here (don’t worry, I’m working on the recipes and celeb outfits, etc.) And since a lot of you have enjoyed the outfit posts, I’m bringing back Weekly Wear! And it’s not just the Weekly Wear showcasing what I wore but I’m adding info on where, when, or how to wear it… So let’s begin with Weekly Wear 39: Lazy Day Sunday.
Today, I decided to feature a very casual outfit. Very simple when I tell you I wore jeans, flats, and a plaid shirt. But I’ll share with you how to spruce it up. How can I make the most of these pieces? How to style it…
Where and When to Wear It
- Mall (shopping, window shopping, picking up stuff)
- Running errands (dashing to the grocery, bank, etc.)
- Hang out at a friend’s house (not a party or special occasion)
- Eating at a fast food chain/semi-fast food chain
- Coffee shop or Bookstore (Hubby and I love to spend our time at Barnes & Nobles)
- Amusement Park, arcades, billiards/pool, or something similar
- or just about anywhere casual, I know you get the drift
WHEN and WHERE NOT TO WEAR IT: Parties, Special Dinner, Date, Clubbing/Upscale Bar, Special Events and Occasions, Corporate, etc.
How to spruce up jeans, flats, and a plaid button-up shirt?
- I consider flats as a simple kind of footwear – there’s not much detail to it (unless it’s beaded or something). So why not fold your jeans or wear cropped ones to add volume or cut the monotony at the bottom?
- Cropping or folding jeans is also a good way to highlight your footwear. So in case you want to highlight a beautiful pair of Chanel quilted flats or Tory Burch Reva flats, then fold away! LOL!
- A button-up shirt such as this plaid shirt will look better with layering. You can layer it up with a faux fur vest over the shirt, or in this case a cropped motorcycle jacket.
- It’s also nice to use a cropped jacket on top of a long shirt because it gives your outfit a different dimension. It makes it more interesting.
- And if you noticed, I didn’t wear the jacket simply by wearing it on top. I pushed the sleeves of the jacket up and folded two inches of the plaid shirt on top of the motorcycle jacket. This way, my jacket looked as if there was a different color or print on the edges. Again, this is to cut the monotony of the color of the jacket.
- Another way to spruce up an outfit is through the use of a scarf. I’m wearing one in stripes and with fringe. Scarf always adds spice to an outfit. I would wear one even during spring and early or late summer. It adds a dramatic effect to ones outfit.
- If you don’t want to wear scarf, you can wear long layered necklaces on top of your shirt.
- It’s also nice to wear a short necklace with a statement pendant beneath the scarf. Use a pendant with a color different from your outfit. In this case, I wore my amethyst necklace with diamond details.
- Lastly, wear a body bag or messenger bag as part of your outfit. I suggest these because remember, I styled this as a lazy day/run errands outfit. That’s why I’d like to keep my hands free as much as possible plus it adds more drama to a simple outfit.
- Of course, this is how I styled it for my lazy day Sunday. Edit my look to show your personality. You can add a Fedora hat, sunglasses or wear a white tank top underneath the shirt and unbutton up to your waist, etc. Be creative. What’s important is that it shows your personal style.
