The hot accessory for fall: extravagantly lush and sexy lashes! How to get them? With a volume intense mascara such as my new one: Exceptionnel de Chanel. It’s only $28 but I got mine for free.

Exceptionnel De Chanel I’m one of Allure magazine’s Allure Experts so I get to try out some of the products they feature. :) I think anyone can join so go ahead and Google it. If you can’t find it, leave me a comment below. I’m no longer putting too much links in my posts because I think it might be the reason Google thinks I’m doing paid posts – which obviously I’m not! Anyway, about my Chanel mascara…

How To: Apply Eye Shadow

Posted on March 6th, 2008 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | Leave a Comment »

Staple: Two shades are just enough. All you need is a base and a defining tone – period! But of course, it’s up to you if you want to have all the colors. If you like to play a lot, it’s fine. Just don’t overdo it. :)

Key factors: If you love wearing eye shadow, you should keep your eyes moisturized. Wrinkles or dry eyelids and upper eyes cause makeup to”cake”. Make sure you use eye cream at night. Always moisturize after washing your face. Let it dry before applying makeup.

Eye Shadow, Eye Liner, Mascara: Which is first? It’s all about what works for you. Since Fashion Juice recommends eye liner as a must if you’re applying eye shadow, then the only logical order would be: Apply eye shadow, then eye liner, then mascara! The eye shadow should be first because you’re eye liner should not be beneath the shadow – else, you’re covering up the eye defining factor which is the eye liner. Last would be the mascara. You don’t wanna smudge your lashes when you apply the eye liner last, right?

Before you apply eye shadow: Make sure to apply a light foundation or compact powder on your eyelids and upper eye area.

Eye Shadow Base: Choose dark colors for the base. Swipe the brush onto the inner third of your eyelid. Run it until half way to the corner of your outer eye. If you’re applying to the crease of your eye, keep your eyes open and tilt your head backwards for you to better see the shape you’re creating.

The Lighter Shade: You’ll need your defining shade or the lighter tone to make the contour. This color would be something that would match your wardrobe or accessories. Apply it onto the remaining two thirds up to the end of the eyelid. Subtly blend the other edge with the base shadow. If you have another lighter shade than your countour shade, you can apply that to the lower fold of your eyelids. It should be a fine line of the lightest shade of your light color. Now the highlight is applied on top of the contour – right below your eyebrow. It should be the lightest color or a white color. The highlight will make your brows appear higher.

Finishing Touches: Use a big and soft blending brush. Sweep your brush up towards the temple. Sweep in the direction of your lashes. Now, you’re ready to apply eye liner and then mascara.

How To: Apply Mascara

Applying mascara can be tricky because sometimes it tends to mess everything up. Here are a few tips to consider just before you apply that to your lashes….

  • Curl your lashes before you apply mascara. It will open up and frame your eyes especially if you have short lashes. TIP: Using a lash curler start squeezing in steps starting from the lashline up to 3/4 of your lash.
  • When ready to apply, place your finger just below the eyebrow and pull up for easy application.
  • Hold the wand horizontally and sweep mascara from roots to end applying only to the last tips on first application. While sweeping, roll the want slightly and wiggle slightly from side to side for even distribution.
  • Let the mascara dry for 4-5 minutes before applying the next coat. Don’t hurry, do other things. Before you go on with the next coat, check if the mascara is dry. Try blinking, if tiny marks were left on your eyelids, then it’s still wet. Clean lids with cottonbuds. If dry, continue with the second coat like you did in the first.
  • If you want thicker lashes, carefully apply mascara to the upper side of the lashes but do not overload!

Fashion Juice Tip:
Do not apply a mascara color that’s too dark. If you have light colored hair, stick to brown colored mascara.
