This is actually a late post. I just remembered to write something about it when I remembered my Shecky’s event. You see this guy there who greets the ladies saw us with the ash on our forehead upon entering the venue. He knows that it’s Ash Wednesday that day for Christians (Catholics) and so he asked us “what are you giving up this lent”. I immediately told him meat – but I know I’m cheating because I have already pledged to be a vegetarian, right? Haha. So I thought perhaps I could share some ideas here on what to give up this Lenten Season. After all, a lot of fashionistas out there are Christians. So might as well give tips on what you can sacrifice as well.

Sacrifice shopping. Lenten season only lasts for forty days in most denominations. So why not avoid the shopping for awhile? It’s a great sacrifice for the fashionista in you, right? After that, when Easter comes, you can shop all you want! Well, not really all you want ‘coz it’s just making up for the sacrifice you’ve just made. The point is, if you can’t think of anything to sacrifice, avoiding to shop is a good idea from time to time. You can also just lessen the amount of shopping. If you shop four times a week, why not make it once a week? Or once in two weeks?

Avoid criticizing people. You know you’re better than that. If these people you love to criticize aren’t doing anything to you, then why criticize? Stop that bad habit of yours of criticizing people and always trying to butt in or argue with others. It’s not a good deed and this Lenten Season is a great time to re-evaluate your actions. Perhaps you haven’t been keeping yourself too busy that you get the time to criticize and gossip about people.

Don’t eat meat on Fridays and during Holy Week. Well this is actually a must for Catholics, with just a few exceptions often related to health. So whether you like it or not, try to abstain from meat on Fridays and Holy Week. And if you can, try to fast as a sacrifice. Skip a meal and donate that food or money to the less fortunate.

Stop meddling on other people’s lives. You have your own life, so don’t meddle in other people’s business. It’s not a good deed to always butt in to other people’s conversation. It’s also not good to always give comments on other people’s lives – especially if they’re negative.

Stop yourself from giving out negative comments. This is in relation to the previous one. If you have nothing good to say, then better keep it to yourself. You don’t want people to see that only negative things are coming out from your mouth. Instead of commenting negative things, take the time to see the good in people or appreciate the positive things that come out from their deeds. Even if you joke about bad things about people – sometimes, it’s true when they say that jokes are half meant. Do you want people to think that you are just always being so negative about them? At the same time, if they’re not doing anything to you, why risk your relationship with people by saying negative things about them. Do you not have anything to do at all but give out nasty and negative comments?

Sacrifice some moolah. Instead of your normal donation to church, why not add a dollar or two as part of your Lenten Season sacrifice. Think about the people you can help with that extra dollar. If everyone will do it, then it’s a big deal to the Church and to the people that they help. You can also donate that money to other charitable institutions that you like.

Dining out or hanging out. Another thing you can sacrifice is dining out at fancy places, hanging out at bars or cafes, going to the movies, or drinking session with friends. You only have to sacrifice for less than three months so it won’t be that hard to make this sacrifice. But if you really can’t avoid it, then just try to limit yourself.

Quit the bad habits. This doesn’t just pertain to vices like excessive drinking, smoking, and gambling among other bad habits. This also pertains to bad habits like gossip, bullying, criticizing, envy, annoying people, and other effing bad habits you can think of. Haha. Well, just quit it won’t you?

In search for the quick and easy-to-make meal without the meat, I decided to be creative. One time, I’ve tried the recipe at the back of Campbell Mushroom soup. It was a quick and easy Chicken alfredo which only required pan fried chicken strips added with mushroom soup and milk. It was delicious. So last Friday, we ran out of mushroom soup but there were tons of Campbell’s Clam Chowder soup. So I tried something different. I sauteed garlic until a bit brown and then added the clam chowder. I added a can of milk, a cup of parmesan cheese, a cup of cheddard cheese, dash of garlic powder, italian seasoning, salt, and pepper and voila… I ended up with a yummy seafood cream pasta. Sprinkle some parsley flakes to complete the look! Toast slices of bread, spread with butter and/or cheese, and sprinkle some garlic powder for your own version of garlic bread.
