Gap Teams Up with CFDA

This is certainly good news… especially for GAP! Although there are still a lot of supporters of the brand, there were news of profits/sales dropping especially during the credit crunch. This is such a wonderful idea to team up with CFDA because for sure, GAP will tickle the fancy of those who are looking for fashion forward clothes in the same level as Alexander Wang, Philip Lim, Thakoon, Richard Chai, Jason Wu, etc. Gap teaming up with CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers America), certainly looks promising.

2009 CFDA FASHION AWARDS

JUNE 15, 2009

LINCOLN CENTER, NEW YORK CITY

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced the nominees for the 2009 awards and it’s filled with some of our favorite designers. Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, and Jason Wu will be vying for a womenswear award while Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli, Michael Bastian, and Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders compete for the menswear accolade. The CFDA will also be honoring First Lady Michelle Obama with a special Board of Directors tribute. Winners will be announced on June 15 at the CFDA gala held at the Lincoln Center in NYC. Fashion at the Park in Dallas, Texas

For those who are looking forward to this post, here you go. Fashion Juice went to Fashion at the Park last October 11. The Fashion Show runs from October 10 to 16, 2008. I chose to go on a Saturday not because it’s a weekday but becase it’s when the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is scheduled.

CFDA is short for the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This runway show celebrates the five years of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Who’s featured? Designers who were award finalists of CFDA, featured in Vogue such as Doo Ri, Phillip Lim, Michael Bastian, Marchesa, Thakoon, and Peter Som. It was on 2003 that Vogue partnered with CFDA to nurture young talented American designers. It offers financial help, business expertise, and mentoring to the next generation of American fashion desiners. The goal of the fund is to encourange and enable designers to achieve their design and business plans. To your right is a lovely creation from Marchesa. This red pleated tiered ruffle gown with flower detail at bodice is one of the most applauded creations during that night.
