Home Decor: Pillows, Rugs, Pedestals, Flatware

Posted on February 20th, 2010 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | Leave a Comment »

I was supposed to make a post about MFJ’s Valentines Date Part 2. However, it seemed as if our Valentine’s Day Part 2 was all about our home. So I simply decided to name this post home decor to share with you the great steals we found for our home. :) And of course, I’ll be sharing bits and pieces of our V-Day Part 2 as well. :)

One thing that I’ve always mentioned here is Fashion is Everywhere, just like what Coco Chanel would say. I just love Art and Style. My sense of fashion and style doesn’t end with the clothes or shoes I wear and the bags that I carry. It goes throughout the home. But of course, since we’re still on a budget, I have to make the most out of what I can find and afford. There’s still a lot of decor and furniture needed but we’re taking it one step at a time. So last Valentine’s Day, Hubby and I went to Ross to find discount pillows that will match our rug. But before I share with you the accent pillows I got, let me share with you about our new rug.

Choosing a Rug

A few weeks ago, I’ve asked my friends which rug to get between these two I’m about to share here. For the longest time, we have been thinking about getting a rug that will fit the theme we’re going for. We’ve been eagerly searching for a discounted rug. Having to buy everything at once is certainly putting a dent in our pockets. But anyway, one fine day that we went to Ross, I found these two amazing rugs at incredible prizes. But the problem with discount stores is that you can’t open the merchandise. We couldn’t open the rolled and wrapped rug and compare the two right there. So what I did? I bought both. If it’s insanely ugly or damaged, it’s okay because it can be returned. If both are okay, I can put one in our bedroom.

So here’s my first choice: Teal, Beige, Green, Brown

The material is leaning towards traditional but the square and rectangular shapes are a modern twist. What’s great about it is that it ties up the colors of the room (which I have learned from watching HGTV, lol). It’s got the green shade of our blinds; the toffee color of our sofa; the dark brown of our wooden floors, ceiling fan, and foldable tables for eating; and the teal can be a great accent for pillows in the future. Seems perfect, don’t you think?

The downside? If you can see on the left edge of the rug, in the middle section closest to the sofa, there is a small dot with a lighter color. Yup, it has a stain of some sort. Actually there’s two. But that can be fixed by probably using a beige dye or fabric paint. But the other downside to it is that it’s not as modern as we want it to be. We are going for a modern theme and we’re planning to get black side tables. It can still work with this rug. However, we feel that this rug looks cheaper than the other one. Well, it was definitely cheaper because we got it for only $29.99. You can’t beat that price. Rugs like these would cost at the least $70-90.

My Second Choice: Black, Gray, White Shaggy Rug

This was actually the first rug that I saw in the store. And I immediately put it in my cart. This was exactly what we were looking for. It has that modern feel, it’s shaggy, and the color goes well with the TV and other furniture we plan to buy. And best of all, it was only $39.99. It was the cheapest shaggy rug we’ve seen so far. But as I was looking at it closely, I saw that the fibers are not as many as other more expensive shaggy rugs. Then again, I thought that maybe it was just because it was rolled tightly. Nevertheless, I took it.

But I continued to check the other rugs until I saw the one on top. I thought to myself that the top one is perfect because it has all the colors in our living room. Now it’s just time to bring these two rugs home and decide on one… or perhaps just use the black/gray/white one in our room. And when we got home and compared the two,  the black one definitely looks more luxurious and modern than the green one. But the question is, does it fit our living room?

Closet Captured

Posted on January 24th, 2010 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 6 Comments »

Aside from the clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories, I’m sure most of you Fashionistas would love to have a huge closet space and be able to decorate it with your personal style. I myself would love to have a huge closet someday. However, I am more than contented with what we have right now. I’m gonna share with you some of the dream closets that most women would love to have. But I’m also going to share my current closet and the minor updates I’ve done to it to make it feel like my very own private nook. :) Of course I let hubby lease a space for the meantime. Hahaha. It took me awhile to decide on what to do with the closet… how to organize the things there. I’ve wasted hours searching for storage solutions and I’ll be sharing with you interesting kinds of storage below and what I still want to have or add in the future when the budget permits. LOL!

Previously, my closet looks like this (the shoes were outside the closet but then I put them in and they were all on the floor)

I Like to Make Myself Believe, that Ikea has Everything I Need

Posted on January 18th, 2010 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 6 Comments »

What a long title I know. But there is a reason for that below (shucks, rhyming… LOL! I didn’t write it on purpose.).

Just wait. First, I’d like to share my last trip to Ikea… during the after-Christmas sale… As you know, one who loves fashion also loves home decors and design. As Coco Chanel would say, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening…” and I say, fashion has to do with how you decorate your home! So when I decided to go to Ikea, I was hoping for great finds and inspiration. Not that I can’t go online to check their pieces but I want to see it in person. It’s one of the things I love to do during my free time. :) I enjoy it.

Upon reaching the parking lot, Hubby and I were amazed at how crowded the parking lot was. Obviously, people were waiting for the sale. But to me, I was thinking Holidays just ended and so I have no more budget left. LOL! The pockets are empty because of shopping for gifts and preparing special dishes… and treating friends and family to Aki Sushi for my post birthday dinner (Did I post about that?)… and then preparing for New Year’s… baking goods… and buying the 13 round fruits as a Philippine New Year tradition. Enough said!

Going back, I so wanted to go around Ikea just to look what’s in store and what’s on sale. it’s been quite a while since I last went inside. Pardon the shots as I only used my iPhone…

You know what this is?

Closet Tip 1: Organizing Accessories

Posted on January 12th, 2010 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 4 Comments »

I’m sure most of you fashionistas have a lot of accessories. Because come on, that is the one thing that we can buy all year round without breaking the bank too much. LOL! Take for example, with thirty bucks, you can buy so many accessories with it. You can buy rings, earrings, necklaces, and bangles of all sorts. Give me that money and I’ll go straight to Forever 21 and I’ll be back with a couple of pieces on hand. Now I can just imagine if I were in Manila – I would really be able to buy a lot of accessories from Landmark with that. Hehe. I’m not a picky shopper. To be able to afford a Fashionista lifestyle, you have to be wise. You can get a lot of the good stuff from more affordable brands and then reserve the funds for the more special and prized pieces. :) Chanel or Hermes anyone? *wink wink*

So anyway, I’m sure there are a lot of you out there who have a lot of accessories too. So my question is, how are you keeping up with organizing them? With a ton of accessories piled up, sometimes, you tend to forget you have this and that. So here is CLOSET TIP #1 from MFJ on how to organize your accessories.

Organizing Accessories Closet Tip 1: Organizing Accessories

I previously bought the Neatnix Jewelry organizers from Bed Bath and Beyond. They are great for my necklaces, rings, and earrings. Ooooh I was so happy at that time because you can buy a lot and stack them up, but -> I was actually planning for a dream closet. I was planning on getting a long table for my dream closet. HAHA. The long table that you see in jewelry stores – the one with the glass top and has an opening at one side… yup, that’s it. I would lay all of these Neatnix organizers there like in a store. But now that we’ve got a home, a long table won’t fit. LOL! Perhaps if I win the lottery, I can buy a house with a walk in closet as big as our current Master Bedroom. If we were able to buy a house with 4 bedrooms, I would have converted the other room to just a closet/bag room. It was the original plan. But we opted for a newer home with only 3 but bigger rooms. Anyway, another downside to this is it’s costly – at $14.95 per stack. And I couldn’t even fit everything here. The necklace stack is not enough and it’s not appropriate for huge necklaces. On top of it all, there’s no room for my bracelets. But anyway, until now I make use of my Neatnix for my other accessories. Bangles can be put in another accessory organizer such as the next one.

When I went home last 2007, I found a hanging pocket jewelry organizer in SM. There’s also one at Bed Bath and Beyond but is like more than three times the price of what I bought back home. Below is the one you can find at Bed Bath and Beyond, selling for $14.99. Ouch. So it was cool. I simply hang it in the closet. No need to dig through a pile of accessories. But again, You’ll have to buy how many to keep everything in one pocket? Or maybe, you can put the sets altogether in one pocket but still, even three of these won’t be enough. And huge bangles won’t fit. Plus, I don’t want it hanging together with my clothes. I have a bit of an O.C.D. (self diagnosed). :) But anyway, I’m still using mine until I get extra budget to buy more of what I’m about to show you after the hanging pocket jewelry…
