50 Best Hairstyle Secrets from Marie Claire Part 1

I came across this 50 best hairstyle secrets while browsing through Marie Claire. So I thought I’d share it with you dear Fashion Juice readers. Some of these tips were new to me. So I hope these tips would be as helpful to you as these were to me.
But anyway, 50 tips would be too much for 1 post. So to not let you get bored, I’ll cut them into 5 parts, with 10 tips each!
- “Get your best haircolor: Use your current color (even if it’s dyed) as a gauge when selecting your formula and never lighten or darken your hair more than two shades at one time.” Uh-oh, I’m guilty. Hehe. In fact, I just dyed my hair with a shade of purplish/red/burgundy. It’s not too obvious but you’ll notice it in person. You can see my hair color in my post about my Forever 21 Plaid Shirt.
- “Eat for healthy hair! The best follicle fuel? Omega-3 fatty acids (found in cold-water fish like salmon) and protein (think nuts and cheese), says Oz Garcia, a nutritionist in New York City.” This I know but haven’t really followed… though I eat nuts, cheese, and salmon or tuna, I never really thought of particularly eating them for my hair’s health.
- “Create lustrous waves by dampening your hair, then smoothing it with a dryer and a round brush. Once it’s straight, use a large curling iron to create loose spirals at your ends.” I have been planning to do this for a really loooooooooooooong time. Spring/Summer would be the best time to do it. I can’t wait!
- “Never made it home last night? Liberate yourself from the notion that you can’t use your guy’s products. Men’s products tend to be formulated for superior hold, anyway, so you can get some high-style looks.” Guilty! I do sometimes use my hubby’s gel… hehe
- “Go glam and gorgeous. A combination of blow-drying and air-drying creates a great, balanced style. Use a little straightening balm and blow-dry heavier bangs so they lie straight.” I tend to get lazy to blow dry… coz I’m always running late… hehe. Ooops.
- “If you straighten your curly hair, a silicone serum is the key to prolonging the straight look. Lightly apply a dime-size amount, focusing mostly on the ends, after you blow-dry and flatiron hair straight.” Well I don’t have a curly hair and even when I had a perm, it wouldn’t last that long! Argh!
“Control those hair impulses! Before dying your blonde locks black, use modern technology to see how you’ll look with that color. Upload your photo and try on a style at The Virtual Hair Salon.” Hmmm. I thought you can’t lighten or darken your hair more than two shades at a time? And because I was tired from working, look at what I did -> check the photo (err, mug shot) to your right. It was fun to play around colors and hair cuts… tempting! Bwahahaha! Oh, and the makeup was also from the tool. You can try on lip colors, blush, eye shadow, liner, and mascara at the Virtual Hair Salon.
- “For the sleekest results on any tress type, use a 1500 to 1800-watt hair dryer when styling; anything less powerful allows your cuticles to curl up while you’re blow-drying.” I didn’t know the wattage would matter. Ooops…
- “Do your hair in five minutes: Spritz a leave-in conditioner mist on dry hair. Then tame flyaways with an anti-frizz serum — work it through your hair and scrunch. Finally, use a little mousse on the ends to keep them looking healthy.” I use my Kerastase serum and the Redken hair products I won last month! They really work… if and when I remember to use them. Hehe.
- “A half-up, half-down hairstyle complements any hair type. Use the ends of your eyebrows as a guide and pull up hair from each end of your forehead. Bring hair up to the top of your head and secure it with a barrette. Finish it off with a light spritz of hairspray.” So Blair Waldorf-ish!
So that’s it for now, ’til our next 50 Best Hairstyle Secrets care of Marie Claire magazine! Hopefully, soon. Ciao ladies!
xoxo
