1st Purchase at Gilt Groupe: Christmas Dress from Ali Ro
Okay this post is all about “firsts” or “first time” stuff I did.
- For one, it was my 1st purchase from Gilt Groupe – the one I featured in one of my posts.
- Now, it was also my 1st time to purchase a Contemporary Designer Dress, being Ali Ro. I remember adoring Isabel Lucas’ (Aussie Actress/Adrian Grenier’s Ex) dress on this post.
- On the last note, it was also my 1st time to purchase something online where I paid for 1 Day Express/Via Air Shipping – to make sure it arrives before we leave for our Holiday Vacation.
Oh goodness! Crazy me… and what happened? It was a disaster!!!
Well, it’s not as bad as you think…
- For the past few weeks, I have been waiting for Gilt Groupe to feature Marc Jacobs collection once more. I missed big time when they featured Marc Jacobs apparel on sale. So I told myself that I will be waiting for the day that they bring back Marc Jacobs. Having said that, I told myself that if I will buy at Gilt Groupe, my first puchase should be a Marc Jacobs… NOT! I ended up with Ali Ro because for one, I have also liked her designs even if she’s not as famous as Marc Jacobs. Second, they were such a bargain ! And lastly, Ali Ro had this red dress that’s so chic as Jackie O! Red – because (1) it’s Christmas, and (2) it’s my birthday (Chinese tradition: wear red on your birthday – though I’m only 1/4 Chinese). The dress was only $78!
- I ordered it for 1 day shipping since I’m leaving tomorrow for California. It was Saturday when I ordered. So obviously, it will have shipped by the next business day, which was Monday. So I was expected to receive the dress Tuesday… NOT! It arrived Wednesday instead because of the bad weather. Oh well, the $39 1 day shipping was not worth it! I paid $39 for shipping! Oh goodness!
- When it arrived, I immediately opened it up. And alas! My fear… it was big! I know I’m usually a Size 2. In fact, for Michael Kors dresses, I’m a Size 0 (because his dresses are really big). Nonetheless, I was afraid that the style of the dress was too fit and might show up my bulges (or make me look like suman, hehe). So I ordered a Size 4. I was actually so confused when ordering during that time. I didn’t know if I’d go for a 2 or a 4, and ended up tossing a coin. Haha. If the head side shows up, I should go for a size 2. And you know what came up? Head! But I was too stubborn to follow it. So there I go, stupid me! I ordered a 4 and when it arrived, the dress was too lousy on me.
- So I asked Gilt Groupe if they will give me a free shipping if I had it exchanged. Luckily, they responded positively! The thing however is, I can only get my credit/exchange when they receive the dress. So unfortunately, I will have no Christmas dress if I return it! Oh goodness!
- But the worst is, today, they are featuring MARC JACOBS dresses online! Oh my! And I can’t order it as an exchange because they should have my Ali Ro dress first. I don’t want to make a new purchase because then, it’s like buying 2 only that when I return the Ali Ro dress they will give me a credit towards a future purchase, not a refund! I don’t want to make impulsive decisions when we’re talking about designer dresses (even if they are good bargains). I mean come on… the Marc Jacobs dress at Gilt costs about $150 or so… and that’s not just some cheap change I can spare anytime. Oh the pain!
So after some thought, I no longer want to return the dress because I paid $39 shipping for that! At the same time, if I return that, I’ll end up having no dress for my birthday on Christmas Day! I’m just telling myself that when I get fat or preggy, I’d still be able to wear the dress! Well, it’s not that big. It’s just a bit lousy – but it’s okay. After all, Holidays are all about food and festivities. So it’s good to hide the tummy too.
Bottomline, avoid last-minute shopping and always make well-informed purchases. Argh…
Let me show you some photos I took of the Ali Ro dress… A sneak peek at what I’ll be wearing this Christmas! Nothing sexy or anything… I’d like to go for a classic Jackie O. look this year.
