Chanel Old Caviar vs Chanel New Caviar

Chanel lovers and enthusiasts out there, I share with you important information about the Caviar Leather used in a lot of Chanel bags. If you haven’t already heard, Chanel is already using the new caviar leather. It’s different albeit not too noticeable. But if you compare the two side by side, you’ll see the difference.
Well, remember my first Chanel Medallion Bag? I took pictures of it when I brought my baby home. I even used it a few times. I returned it because it had a pressed mark on the front. Now when I got my new one and went home, it was when I noticed there’s something different about the bag. It feels lighter actually. AND… it’s shinier! Why? This doesn’t look right!!! It’s not exactly the same bag I first got…
That’s when it occurred to me… uh-oh… one’s the old caviar and one’s the new caviar. Sheez… why didn’t I pay attention?!? So before I tell you the rest of the story, let me share with you the difference between the Chanel Old Caviar and the Chanel New Caviar. Actually, there’s not much difference except for two things:
- The CHANEL OLD Caviar has a shiny material while the CHANEL NEW Caviar has a matte/washed-like material. In fact, some would call the new caviar as the washed caviar.
- The CHANEL OLD Caviar feels lighter than the CHANEL NEW Caviar. BUT, that goes for the Chanel Medallion bag. A lot of Chanel Flap owners tell me that the new one is softer and feels lighter. However, that is not the case for my Medallion because that was the first observation I found when I first tried the bag… that it felt lighter. The new caviar feels sturdy while the old caviar is softer and lighter.
So, what does Fashion Juice prefer? I like the new caviar – the one that I returned. I like my Chanel Caviar to be matte rather than shiny. BUT, it’s okay. Because the old caviar is no longer produced, it could go up price-wise. I heard more people in the Purse Blog Forum prefer the old caviar over the new one. Thus, a lot of them are now looking for bags made with the old caviar. PLUS, even if I like the new one better, I’m glad I have this old caviar now because when I buy my next Chanel, then I’ll be getting the new caviar. Thus, I’ll have both! Yay!
So how about you Chanel lovers out there or soon-to-be Chanel owners? Which do you prefer?
xoxo
