Fashion At The Park, Part 2

Posted on October 14th, 2008 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 6 Comments »

So you thought my previous post is all there is to the “Fashion at the Park” event? That’s where you got it all wrong. The Fashion at the Park event is not all fashion show. Cocktails were served prior to the Fashion Show and an after-party at the tents completed the whole thing. It was a fun-filled night for a Fashionista like me and I’m sure you will too if you were there. So if you are a Fashion Show virgin, I definitely suggest attending one whenever you get the chance. Let me give you the juicy details below.

Belvedere Dirty Martinis

The moment we arrived at NorthPark Center (in the afternoon), I already asked if we can get in the area earlier before the show time. The lovely ladies told me that we can get in an hour before the show. So great! A little past 7 pm, we already went to the entrance simply because we’re already tired from all the walking and because we wanted to get good seats. Hubby and I were photographed, like how celebs are photographed during Red Carpet events… haha! But I haven’t received the photo yet. So just wait. However I’m still thinking whether or not to post it here.

Fashion Juice Anyway, after the shoot, we got in and were served drinks. They called it Couture Cocktails. Of course… what’s a fashion soiree without a designer cocktail or two? They served Belvedere Runway Martini – the best I’ve tasted, Moet & Chandon White Star Champagne, and 10 Cane Rum Fashion. Also served were iced tea and Glaceau Smartwater.

NorthPark Fashion at the Park After a few minutes of cocktails, the runway was opened. The first two rows are for VIP guests which included fashion critics. Third row is open to those with tickets. We paid $25 each plus $3 handling each, by the way. It was a pretty good deal. Luckily, we got third row seats! Finally, just a few minutes before the show started, the fashion director asked us to move forward to the two vacant second row seats. We were bumped to VIP seats! Lucky us!

Thanks to Elissa Lumley of Vogue for the info about Anne. Ms. Vincent showed us the Douglas Keeve film, Seamless, a feature film on the CFDA designers. After that, she introduced Thakoon, Peter Som, and the Marchesa Designers: Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman, a model-turned-actress-turned designer. Chapman’s films include Derailed, The Business, Match Point, Shanghai Knights, Awake, The Nanny Diaries, Grindhouse, Factory Girl, and That’s for Me, to be released this year. Georgina Chapman is soooo beautiful!!! Love her! A talented and beautiful lady in one – that’s Georgina Chapman!

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund After the intro was the fashion show. Peter Som featured 12 creations with a Plum off shoulder layered organza short gown as his finale. Next was Doo Ri which featured 8 outfits with a finale of an aubergine bonded jersey dress with organza and crystals. Michael Bastian’s 8 creations for men were most likely to be worn by Chuck Bass. Thakoon played around with a lot of blazers, scarves, and floral prints in his line up of 12. I loved Phillip Lim’s collection where he featured 13 amazing fun, flirty, and colorful dresses. And of course, the crowd’s favorite, Marchesa, featured 12 heavenly dresses that will make you look like royalty. Wow.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund So after the show, cocktails were served once more as Chapman and Kraig were interviewed. Peter Som and Thakoon mingled with the crowd as we sampled creations of Celebrity Chef John Tesar of the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. We ate Lobster and Hearts of Palm Salad, Hamachi Ceviche in Cones, Smoked Salmon Chive Creme Fraiche and Rainbow Trout Roe, Chili Rubbed Lamb with Curry Dip, Steak Flat Bread with Garlic Butter, and Braised Short Ribs and Black Truffle. Sounds delicious? Definitely! Of course, party won’t be complete without the music. After eating, we stayed at the Capital One Bank Lounge where Dallas-socialite-turned-music-guru Lucy Wrubel spins from a raised DJ booth.

  1. Marchesa was my favorite collection of the night, by far, though I did like a lot of Phillip Lim’s accessories. Did you have a chance to talk with Georgina and Keren? They were quite friendly, and I think everyone felt more comfortable talking with them than with Roberto Cavalli the night before.

  2. Hi Michelle. I missed talking to them though they seem really approachable. They were being interviewed by the media as cocktails were served. Had to leave early after that. Did you get the chance to meet them personally?

  3. I was covering the event for a local newspaper blog, so I got to talk to them briefly, actually as they were leaving. Georgina definitely seemed like the more talkative one! I was also hoping to interview the Rodarte designers tomorrow (Wednesday), but who knows if that will work out. This is my first Fashion at the Park, and it’s been fun.

  4. That is great! :) I woult love to go to Rodarte too but have a lot of work to do! Have fun tonight! What newspaper blog you’re working for? So I can check out what happens in Rodarte. :)

  5. I’m writing for the Dallas Observer’s blog, Unfair Park. Here are the two I’ve put together so far: http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2008/10/_evans_caglage_fashion_at.php and http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2008/10/having_a_cavalli_or_economy_wh.php

I probably will only write about Rodarte if I can get the interview (I’ll still go just to enjoy it, though). And I still haven’t heard back from their PR folks. Frustrating!

  6. Oh, I’ve read this one. I’ve found the blog, Unfair Park, after searching for the name of the Vogue spokesperson. Thankfully, the Director of Communications at Vogue emailed me the name. Saw your own blog too. :) Enjoy Rodarte! Wishing I can go to each show… Haha!
