The Buzz on NY & Company

I’ve always known NY & Company to be a cheap brand targeted to women in the business world. They usually have office clothes and lots of cheap bags and other accessories among many other things. I’ve never liked their clothing right from the very start. Although there are of course a number of pieces that will do. But they are the kind of cheap but not so cheap brand. They have a lot of knock-off pieces that are of course cheap (being a knock-off), but is more expensive than the other knock-offs (if you get what I mean). I’m not a fan of their signature bags simply because I know they’re trying to mimic the labels such as Coach, LV’s, Fendi, Gucci, and many others… They even have a copy of the shoulder bag I got from Coach a couple of years back. But don’t get me wrong, they do have some cute bags from time to time.
This one is a cute take on leopard prints and I was sold when they offered it for $9 something. It’s a hot global print but it’s not something you’ll see everyday in a bag. It’s a cute shopping tote that can carry a whole lot of stuff!!!
Now this one is something I ordered from NY&Company’s online store. I thought it looked okay in the picture… pretty reasonable for $19.95 being a clutch and bag at the same time. So this bag arrived at my door today. OMG! It was not like this at all. I was a shiny cheap read. I can’t believe why I had ever ordered online from NY&Company when I know that there’s only a few okay pieces in their store. I will return it as soon as possible.
As for the shoes… they have all the knock-off pieces in the world. They try to copy Steve Madden, Michael Kors, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Tory Burch, etc, etc, etc… once I was excited to check out some green faux croc simply because they have a wide collection of it… they had shoes, bags, and belts in that material. So I was thinking of getting the whole set. When I tried the shoes, oh no! So uncomfy!!! Just before the summer started, I was already looking for wedge sandals and they had it in 3 colors… and of course they’re cheap. But once I tried it on, oh dear! Again, I couldn’t think how one can last walking in those wedges. Sorry NY&Company but that’s the truth. I actually loved them before since they had fashionable and trendy pieces that are affordable. But sometimes, you have to remember that cheap isn’t always the way to go.
So I’m not into their bags (with a number of exceptions). I totally hate their shoes (let’s just give an exception to the flip flops they have, I mean that’s a flipflop what could possibly go wrong?). Now let’s take a look at their accessories. Perhaps the only thing I would buy from this store is an accessory. Their jewelries and accessories are the normal accessories that you can wear on a daily basis. BUT, of course there’s a but, you will find that they are more expensive for a cheap brand. If I were you, just go to Forever21 or H&M. They have cheaper items that are as good or even better.
Another accessory common in NY&Company are the belts. So I noticed that they have the cheapest of belts among the cheap brands. They seemed nice online so I ordered 3 belts. I didn’t like it. For one, they aren’t true to their size. I ordered 2 small and 1 medium (since they don’t have it in small anymore and I could probably add holes to make it fit me). I ordered a skinny red belt, an all white belt (buckle covered in white faux leather too), and a dark brown with gold buckle belt. Again, total disappointment. The medium brown one, even if I poked 4 holes, it wouldn’t fit. So I’m sure even if I ordered small, it wouldn’t fit. The white one arrived a bit dirty (and I’m not sure if it can be removed) and was still big for me. The red one had scratches on the buckle so I’m definitely returning it with the brown one. As for the white, I’m still thinking about it. But I’m truly disappointed with their online service. Seems like they just send it out even if has scratches or dirt hoping that their customers are too lazy to return it.
Lastly, the clothing. I don’t even want to go there. But anyway, because I subscribed to their mailing list, I was tempted to purchase 4 halter tops from them. It was sold for $5.99, which was previously $16.95. It looked cute in the picture. I ordered small. They were all big. They were like a large size in other brands. They weren’t even flattering. Imagine a big and long knit halter top… It reaches the butt area and it’s wide. In short, I’m returning all 4. I’m happier with the $4.80 racer back knit top I got at Forever 21. So sexy and flowing at the same time. Uggh… now I have to go to NY&Company just to return stuff. What a waste of time! I’m not saying don’t buy at NY&Co. I’m just saying that it would be better to just see their items in person and make sure that you try them on too. They are the perfect example that pictures can be deceiving.

Here’s what I shopped at NY & Company… (look at the red color of the bag here and at the picture above)
