Mineral Makeup is Hot – But is it Good?

Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | Leave a Comment »

I noticed that my entries are mostly about clothing and accessories when in fact I should be adding stuff about beauty too. We can’t complete the look without looking good ourselves, right? So I figured I’d share my Mineral Makeup knowledge with you.

The hottest cosmetics in Hollywood today is Mineral Makeup! Brands like Bare Escentuals, Raw Minerals, Josie Maran, Neutrogena, bare Minerals, L ‘Oreal, and as seen on TV Sheer Cover are just some of the hottest brands of mineral makeup today. Just this season, another popular brand has produced their own line of mineral makeup – Maybelline New York. There is this notion that the concept of mineral makeup has been introduced back in the 1970s. But it was only now that it had boomed.

A lot of people have been asking about mineral makeup and why it’s hot. Over the years, people tend to be more health conscious. That is the very reason why mineral makeup is becoming famous – because it claims to be all natural or what they say “coming from the earth”. It has caught a lot of attention. But the question is, is it any good?

To be honest with you, it has no special health or beauty properties. Its main ingredients include minerals like mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide which have been the basis of most makeup foundations for decades. SO WHY BUY IT? Well, what’s good about it is, unlike regular cosmetics, it gets rid of classic irritants like fragrance, dyes, binders, and preservatives. PLUS, most mineral makeup already includes SPF. Also, a lot of users claim that it stays longer and covers up unwanted spots.

If you ever plan on buying one, make sure that you get an “all mineral makeup” that can attest to its name. Because there’s no solid line as to what mineral makeup really is, a lot of companies are marketing their products as mineral makeup even if it’s not. What do I mean? Almost all cosmetics contain even the slightest amount of minerals. So there are those that just add a mineral ingredient and claim it’s a mineral makeup even if it has a lot of artificial ingredients added to it. What you should be looking for is an all mineral makeup if you want an all natural makeup – no artificials!

So make sure that when you get your mineral makeup, read the label. Not because it says “mineral”, does it mean that they don’t add in artificial ingredients. In short, do your homework before you buy. Research!

Shopping H&M

Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 1 Comment »

I went to the mall today and was very satisfied with my fashion finds… H&M has always been a part of my trip. But today, I made it my first stop. Usually, I go directly to Macy’s or Nordstrom. But I’m so happy that I went to H&M first. I was so lucky to discover these great finds at H&M this week! I’ve taken a shot of the stuff that I bought… Let’s see. I got a navy blue cropped linen pants with tie, white cropped linen pants, and an orangy-pink cropped linen pants as well. Also, I got three tops: a fuschia baby doll blouse, a tan with light gold stain baby doll blouse, and black collared tee with puffed sleeves. I also got the black patent bag I featured in my previous entry: Ralph Lauren vs H&M. So guess how much I spent? Just $60 for all these… $29.90 for the bag and the remaining for all the clothes I got! Interesting? I’d say very!

NOTE: The tops and bottoms were just laid out in random. So I’m not suggesting that they should go together. The fuschia and tan/gold baby doll tops are dressy blouses you can wear with a black skirt  or black trousers for the not-so-ordinary but not-too-formal occasions. But you can also pair it with boot cut, wide leg, or straight cut jeans for a night out. Now the black collared tee is for any occasion (except formal). Pair it with jeans for a casual look. Match it with white linen for a Resort outfit. You can also wear it with a denim skirt for a flirty touch. Since this cotton tee has collar, you can match it with light-colored business trousers and a matching coat. As for the cropped linen pants, you know what to do with it! I figured Spring/Summer is just around the corner. So why not stock up on great deals? White is perfect for the coming seasons as it can easily match bright and lovely colored tops! The orangy-pink color is great for that Spring/Summer look! And navy blue… good for any season!

Ralph Lauren Bags vs H&M

Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Fashion Juice (Admin) | 4 Comments »

So I bought the InStyle magazine featuring Eva Longoria last Sunday. I saw this new collection from Ralph Lauren which includes the Ricky Alligator bag - definitely to die for! The price? Deadly too! haha… Below are the pictures of the different Ralph Lauren “Ricky” Bags plus something more. The most expensive is the Ricky Ruched Crocodile Bag. Second most expensive is the Ricky Alligator Bag. The third Ralph Lauren bag is a Ricky Calf Bag. Now the fourth one, which is the cheapest of all, is my new fashion find. I just came home from shopping and saw this one at H&M. The moment I laid my eyes on this bag, it reminded me of that Ralph Lauren bag! I just gotta have it. And I wanted to share it with the Fashion Juice readers! I took the picture of my new H&M with the RL one in the magazine. Compare the prices and let me know what you would choose if you were me. (Duh! Isn’t it obvious!) Of course, if you’ve got thousands of $$$ to spare, the RL is definitely the most gorgeous. But if you do have $$$, I would definitely recommend the orange color from the mag!
