Mineral Makeup is Hot – But is it Good?
Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Fashion Juice (Admin)I noticed that my entries are mostly about clothing and accessories when in fact I should be adding stuff about beauty too. We can’t complete the look without looking good ourselves, right? So I figured I’d share my Mineral Makeup knowledge with you.
The hottest cosmetics in Hollywood today is Mineral Makeup! Brands like Bare Escentuals, Raw Minerals, Josie Maran, Neutrogena, bare Minerals, L ‘Oreal, and as seen on TV Sheer Cover are just some of the hottest brands of mineral makeup today. Just this season, another popular brand has produced their own line of mineral makeup – Maybelline New York. There is this notion that the concept of mineral makeup has been introduced back in the 1970s. But it was only now that it had boomed.
A lot of people have been asking about mineral makeup and why it’s hot. Over the years, people tend to be more health conscious. That is the very reason why mineral makeup is becoming famous – because it claims to be all natural or what they say “coming from the earth”. It has caught a lot of attention. But the question is, is it any good?
To be honest with you, it has no special health or beauty properties. Its main ingredients include minerals like mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide which have been the basis of most makeup foundations for decades. SO WHY BUY IT? Well, what’s good about it is, unlike regular cosmetics, it gets rid of classic irritants like fragrance, dyes, binders, and preservatives. PLUS, most mineral makeup already includes SPF. Also, a lot of users claim that it stays longer and covers up unwanted spots.
If you ever plan on buying one, make sure that you get an “all mineral makeup” that can attest to its name. Because there’s no solid line as to what mineral makeup really is, a lot of companies are marketing their products as mineral makeup even if it’s not. What do I mean? Almost all cosmetics contain even the slightest amount of minerals. So there are those that just add a mineral ingredient and claim it’s a mineral makeup even if it has a lot of artificial ingredients added to it. What you should be looking for is an all mineral makeup if you want an all natural makeup – no artificials!
So make sure that when you get your mineral makeup, read the label. Not because it says “mineral”, does it mean that they don’t add in artificial ingredients. In short, do your homework before you buy. Research!
xoxo
